Selecting window treatments can be an overwhelming experience, considering the myriad of options available today.

Evaluate your functional requirements
Do you need light control for daytime and privacy only at night? If you live on a busy street, you may want a shade with a top-down option for daytime privacy. What are your energy efficiency needs? A custom drapery with a thermal lining is one choice. Cellular (honeycomb) shades are an ideal alternative for drafty windows. Certain shade styles meet the requirements for a federal tax credit.

Select your preferred method of operation
Many are available with a "cordless" option the shade or blind is spring loaded, and easily rises by pulling up the bottom rail. Or a clutch system with a continuous cord eliminates the danger of excess cord hanging down when the blind is raised. A third option is motorization with a remote control, which is ideal for those hard-to-reach high windows.

Choose the Style best suited for your decor
Some ideas to consider: Interior wood shutters or blinds offer great light control and add an architectural element to the room. Louver sizes range from traditional 1 inch up to contemporary 4-1/2 inches plantation style. Also available are a faux (composite) shutter/blind, ideal for bathrooms and spas.
